Mayor, City of Los Angeles
Assuming office in 2022, Bass became the 43rd and first female mayor of Los Angeles. She has contended with the city’s homelessness crisis, wildfires and the subsequent recovery efforts in the Pacific Palisades. Notably, in 2024, her administration achieved a 10% reduction in homelessness. She has also increased the number of services provided by the city. Bass’ career in public service began in 1990 when she co-founded the nonprofit Community Coalition. She later served in the California State Assembly, including two years as Speaker after winning her seat in 2004. In 2010, Bass was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
