President, California Lutheran University
Nunes became the ninth president of California Lutheran University in June. He had served as interim president since June 2024, bringing over three decades of leadership experience to the role. Prior to joining California Lutheran, he was president of Concordia College New York, and since 2020, he has participated in the Council of Independent Colleges’ Campus Free Expression Project. Additionally, he served as president and chief executive of Lutheran World Relief, where he led global poverty alleviation and sustainable development efforts. His fundraising efforts played a vital role in securing transformational leadership gifts for Lutheran World Relief’s $45 million Lutheran Malaria Initiative. He held the Emil and Elfriede Jochum Chair at Valparaiso University and authored five books along with numerous scholarly articles.
