Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. will move jobs to Van Nuys Airport from Long Beach as part of a streamlining and modernizing of its customer service.The closure of the Long Bach maintenance and modification facility will occur over the next six months as work shifts to the other locations, including the San Fernando Valley general aviation airport and facilities in Savannah, Ga., and Appleton, Wis.The Van Nuys Airport service center is adjacent to the new Jet Aviation fixed-base operation and 43,000-square-foot hangar space that opened in November. Both Gulfstream and Jet Aviation are owned by General Dynamics Corp., a large aerospace and defense contractor in Reston, Va.Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream, said that the company has made significant investments to modernize and expand its manufacturing and service networks.“By leveraging these newer, more modern locations and synergies across the network, we can further enhance the overall experience for our customers, whether they’re taking delivery of a new aircraft or scheduling service,” Burns said in a statement.In addition to offering maintenance, the Van Nuys facility serves as the local operating base for Gulfstream Field and Airborne Support Teams, a rapid-response unit that specializes in troubleshooting grounded aircraft, according to Gulfstream.
There are more than 130 Gulfstream aircraft based at Van Nuys Airport, the most active business aviation airport in California, the company said.Gulfstream Van Nuys has about 66,000 square feet, which includes approximately 43,000 square feet of hangar space, enough to accommodate four Gulfstream G650ER or G650 aircraft, the company added.
