Cheryl Fair, the long-time news director at KABC-TV, has been named president and general manager of the Glendale station. Fair replaces Arnie Kleiner who retired at the end of January after 19 years with the station owned by Walt Disney Co. in Burbank. As news director for 15 years, Fair oversaw 53 hours of live newscasts each week, developed emerging talent, and adopted new technologies to make KABC contemporary and cost efficient, the company said. Rebecca Campbell, president of ABC Owned Television Stations Group, called Fair well respected and key to the success of the station. “Her internal knowledge of Channel 7 and the L.A. market makes her the perfect choice to take the reins at KABC,” Campbell said in a prepared statement. Fair is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and began her career at KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh, as a producer and writer in 1973. She spent 20 years with WPVI-TV in Philadelphia as producer, managing editor and executive producer. Last year, Fair was named a distinguished journalist by the Society of Professional Journalists Los Angeles Chapter.
