Cable sports network ESPN signed a deal to broadcast college playoff games and championship games for 12 years. The network, owned by Burbank media and entertainment conglomerate The Walt Disney Co., will begin airing the two semifinal and the championship games after the 2014 regular season and continue through the 2025 regular season. ESPN, based in Bristol, Conn., will also continue to air the Rose, Sugar and Orange Bowls games. The new playoff system will make the games meaningful to the passionate college football fan base, said ESPN President John Skipper. “We are ecstatic at the opportunity to continue to crown a college football champion on ESPN’s outlets for years to come, the perfect finale to our year-round commitment to the sport,” Skipper said in a prepared statement. The new playoff system will be administered by the football bowl subdivision conferences and independent institutions.
