Dreamworks to Build Chinese Theme Park

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. will develop an indoor theme park in the Yangtze River Delta in China as part of a joint venture. The park will showcase characters created by the Glendale animation studio, including those from the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, according to Chinese media reports. Shuai Min, vice president of the Shanghai-based Oriental DreamWorks did not reveal to the Xinhua News Agency where in the delta the park would be built or the schedule for its construction. DreamWorks Animation joined with three Chinese media companies in early 2012 to form Oriental DreamWorks. The joint venture is supposed to collaborate on a film studio, the Dream Center entertainment and cultural complex in Shanghai, mobile, online, interactive games and consumer products. DreamWorks Animation owns 45 percent of the company. Shares of Dreamworks closed Friday up $1.58 or 6.5 percent at $25.87 on the Nasdaq.
