News and notes from around the greater San Fernando Valley area SAN FERNANDO VALLEY Calabasas Conserve: ValleyCrest Landscape Companies has started a water management Web site for the commercial real estate industry. The Web site is aimed at helping property managers and owners to adopt better practices. The site is organized into four categories — Innovation, Trends, Technology and Resources. Bloggers will report on and analyze current events in water management, new technology available to property owners and share resources and tips on conserving water. Northridge Promote: Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuaries selected marketing agency LA ads to create an advertising and marketing program. LA ads does offline and online marketing for a wide range of clients, from food producers to hospitals to financial services. “We’re honored to be working with Rose Hills,” said agency President Dan Katz, who has been working with funeral industry clients since the mid-90s. “As a memorial park and funeral services provider, Rose Hills is the crown jewel. What they do, others in the industry see and take note of.” Burbank Fly and Ride: JetBlue passengers can now use their boarding pass for a free ride aboard Metrolink to and from Bob Hope Airport. Boarding passes must be printed and are only good on the day of a passenger’s JetBlue flight. The program will last through the end of the year. “By partnering with JetBlue, we are able to add value to our current passengers while introducing our service to travelers who do not typically use public transportation,” said Mark Nitti, Metrolink’s director of customer engagement. “Additionally, one less automobile on the roadways is good for the environment.” Woodland Hills Volunteer: Finalists for the 53rd Fernando Award were announced on June 17. The award recognizes volunteerism and civic accomplishments in the San Fernando Valley. The nominees were: Greg Baker, Eric M. Book, Nancy Cartwright, Lois Curran-Klein, Jolene Koester, Fred F. Mautner, Joyce Pearson, Joel Simon, Gary M. Thomas. The 2011 Fernando Award recipient will be announced in September. CONEJO VALLEY Westlake Village Grow: Financial services firm Financial Pointe added space to its Westlake Village office in anticipation of adding employees. The firm recently hired Jack Dvir, a former Edward Jones advisor, for its team of wealth management professionals. Financial Pointe serves clients along the 101 Corridor in the San Fernando and Conejo valleys and Ventura County. “We are confident to expand our physical office because industry insight reveals that large financial advisement firms are placing more pressure on their financial advisors by increasing the minimum amount of revenues they must generate to continue,” said Elad Goren and Stephen Thomas, owners and co-founders of Financial Pointe. ANTELOPE VALLEY Lancaster Music: Sierra Toyota Scion is sponsoring a concert series in downtown Lancaster that will run through August. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. at the bandstand on Lancaster Boulevard at Elm Avenue. Local restaurants, including the Lemon Leaf CafĂ©, will provide meals on the go.
