AROUND THE VALLEYS – August 6, 2012

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY CALABASAS Software as a Service (SaaS) provider SpotlightTMS will soon be helping premium customers for NFL team the Seattle Seahawks ensure their tickets end up in the right hands, the Calabasas-based company announced July 24. SpotlightTMS’s application allows companies to manage ticket inventories, distribute tickets, analyze the results of ticket usage and acquire additional tickets from multiple sources using secured Internet access. SpotlightTMS says this helps its users comply with federal and state regulations related to corporate entertaining. The Seattle Seahawks franchise is providing SpotlightTMS as part of its hospitality suite packages for the upcoming 2012 NFL season. “We chose SpotlightTMS because it’s the clear industry leader,” said Amy Sprangers, managing director of suite sales and service for Seattle Seahawks & Seattle Sounders FC. “We believe our suite owners will enjoy the ease of managing their tickets and requests — as well as tracking their ROI — all in one easy-to-use application.” The suites are located at CenturyLink Field, the Seattle Seahawks’ home stadium. A few other SpotlightTMS clients include Google, AT&T, Comcast, Fox Sports, NBCUniversal and various professional sports teams. GLENDALE DineEquity Inc. announced that it is selling 65 of its Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar company-operated restaurants in Michigan to a franchisee, transitioning the parent company into a fully franchised system. DineEquity, the parent company of Applebee’s and IHOP restaurants, entered in the asset purchase agreement with TSFR Apple Venture LLC, the company announced July 25. Upon closing of this deal and two other refranchising transactions — which are all expected to be completed in the third or early fourth quarter of 2012 — DineEquity will become a 99 percent franchised restaurant system. “We are excited to reach this very important milestone in our history and realize our strategic goal of transitioning the Applebee’s business model away from company-owned and operated restaurants and toward the pure-play franchisor model we pioneered at IHOP,” DineEquity Chairman and CEO Julia A. Stewart said, in a prepared statement. In total, DineEquity has sold or entered into agreements on 510 domestic Applebee’s company-operated restaurants. GLENDALE Ptch, a free mobile application that allows users to create multimedia stories by combining various social media outlets, launched last month and is now available in the Apple App Store. Ptch, backed by DreamWorks Animation, allows its app users to access photos, video and music from their iPhones and then combine them with media from their social feeds, including Instagram, Google+, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter and Viddy. Users can then use the app to create “multimedia mash-ups” that can last up to 60 seconds long. “We are witnessing one of modern history’s most far-reaching and exciting waves of self-expression,” Ptch CEO Ed Leonard said in a prepared statement. “Ptch provides the next-generation platform that will empower every user to create compelling, personalized content to share with their followers, friends and families.” The app is available for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod and iPad devices. SANTA CLARITA VALLEY VALENCIA Total Woman Gym and Day Spa has opened a new location in Valencia, representing Total Woman’s 13 location in Southern California. The new facility, which takes up more than 12,000 square feet, held its soft opening last month and will be hosting its grand opening in mid-September, said Carol Steen, general manager of the new location. The new site is both a fitness facility and a spa, including services such as massages, facials, eyebrow waxes and spray tanning. “It’s something very unique to the area that women here have been warning for a long time,” Steen said. “There’s a lot here for them under one roof.” The new gym is located at 24245 Magic Mountain Parkway and occupies a portion of a former Mervyns building at the River Oaks Shopping Center. Neighboring retailers include Sprouts Farmers Market, ULTA, and Buy Buy Baby, Steen said. “It helps the traffic coming in and out and just the visibility,” she said. “That’s something that we look forward to in all of our locations.” Total Woman conducted four months of membership pre-sales for the new location before it opened, Steen said. The new gym and spa employs about 50 employees who were generally hired from the direct area. The new Total Woman Gym and Day Spa plans to collaborate with several community partners for events and fundraisers, including Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley.
