Cal State University Classes Mostly Online in Fall

The California State University system plans to cancel nearly all in-person classes in the fall and move classes online, Chancellor Timothy White announced Tuesday. The decision will affect all 10 campuses, including California State University – Northridge and California State University – Channel Islands in Camarillo. Online classes are needed in light of “evolving data surrounding the progression” of the virus, White said during a virtual meeting of CSU trustees. White said researchers predict a second, smaller wave of the virus in the summer, followed by a larger wave in the fall. “Consequently, our planning approach will result in CSU courses primarily being delivered virtually for the fall 2020 term,” he said. Classes in the California State University moved on line in March. CSUN has more than 33,000 students, while Cal State Channel Islands has about 7,000. The policy of online classes may have exemptions for nursing and engineering classes that require personal instruction.
