Yahoo Inc. is laying off 65 employees in Burbank, according to a notice filed with the state. On April 4, the Sunnyvale-based company announced it was laying off about 2000 employees worldwide as its new CEO Scott Thompson looks create a “smaller, nimbler more profitable” company. The layoffs at 3333 Empire Ave.—home of Yahoo! Search Marketing–were previously unknown. Yahoo didn’t detail where layoffs would fall in its early April announcement. Burbank’s Deputy City Manager Joy Forbes said the news is a blow to the city, but that it could have been worse. “None of this is ever good news, but at least the group we have in Burbank is probably pretty efficient if we are talking 2,000 layoffs and this is our portion,” she said. In an email April 11, a Yahoo spokeswoman said the company won’t breakdown the layoff numbers past the 2,000 global figure.
