The City of Burbank has hired a veteran broadcast journalist as its new public information officer. Drew Sugars will begin his position with the city on July 9. He was chosen from among 100 applicants. Sugars has 17 years’ experience as a television news reporter, anchor and newsroom manager. Since 2008 he has served as public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. As the Burbank PIO, Sugars will work with department heads and elected officials to provide public information to the media and residents, implement the City’s Strategic Communications Plan, and oversee The Burbank Channel, and the city’s internet presence. “It’s very exciting to work for a city that’s committed to using the latest technology to keep the public informed,” Sugars said in a prepared statement. “This city is renowned for being cutting edge while maintaining its hometown charm.
