Ceres Inc. has started sales of seeds to grow raw materials for biofuels and biopower, the company announced. Thousand Oaks-based Ceres will sell the switchgrass and high-biomass sorghum seeds under the Blade Energy Crops label and has a website to support direct-to-farm sales. Sorghum and switchgrass provide new options for growers, especially on underperforming acres, said Anna Rath, vice president of commercial development at Ceres. “No doubt growers with experience under their belts will have a head start as bioenergy companies begin looking for larger-scale supplies of biomass, or locations to site new facilities,” Rath said.
