California Lutheran University has received a $210,000 grant to assist teachers attending its summer science institute. Amgen Foundation provided the grant to the Amgen Summer Science Institute to assist secondary school teachers who attend the four week workshop and elementary school teachers who attend the one week seminar. Participants receive a $1,000 stipend, including $500 toward personal expenses, $300 to purchase science supplies for their schools and $200 for attending a follow-up workshop. Participants are selected on a competitive basis.
