Capstone Green Energy Gets Microturbine System Order

Van Nuys-based Capstone Green Energy Corp. has received an order through a distributor for a 600-kilowatt microturbine system to be installed at a renewable natural gas station in Kansas.

The order for the microturbine was secured by Lone Star Power Solutions, the exclusive distributor for Capstone in Texas, Arizona and the Gulf States.

The new system, which will be installed by the end of the month, will provide reliable power for gas compression operations at a remote site where no electricity is available, according to a release from Capstone put out on Wednesday.

Doug Demaret, president of Lone Star, said that Capstone’s product was a natural fit for the unstaffed site both because the turbines are extremely reliable, and since they require very little maintenance.

“The Capstone products are the cleanest power generation combustion technology available today, which our customers value,” Demaret said in a statement.

Darren Jamison, chief executive of Capstone, said that providing reliable power at remote sites is a hallmark of its microturbine systems.

“We firmly believe that our microturbines are a practical and often cost-effective path to the clean energy future,” Jamison said in a statement.

Shares in Capstone (CGRN) closed up Wednesday 27 cents, or more than 17%, to $1.83 on the Nasdaq, on a day when that market closed up nearly 1.6%.
