Two longtime patrons are seeking to buy Henry’s Tacos, a Studio City landmark that was expected to close Dec. 31, allowing the stand to remain open for at least 10 more days in January. And if an agreement can be reached between patrons Matt Pyken and Steve Rose and landlord Mehran Ebrahimpour of Beverly Hills, then the taco stand would stay open indefinitely. Henry’s was facing closure after owner Janis Hood sought to sell the business, but was unable to come to an agreement with buyers and Ebrahimpour, who would have to give any new owner a lease. Hood, whose grandfather, Henry, founded the stand 51 years ago, had wanted to get out of the business she has run for years. She decided to close Dec. 31 after being hit with a rent increase. That decision prompted long lines at the stand and an outpouring of support on Twitter, including from celebrity patrons. Hood said Wednesday that if Pyken and Rose don’t have a lease signed by Jan. 15, then she will begin moving the equipment she owns out of Henry’s. She said she expects the stand to be open through Jan. 14, but could not even guarantee that. “At least through the 10th we’ll be here,” she said. Efforts to keep the stand open were complicated by Hood’s unsuccessful effort to have the business declared a city landmark, which would have restricted use of the property. The stand, with its brightly colored sign , is considered an example of “Googie” architecture, a mid-century style featuring futuristic motifs.
