Japanese Firm Acquires Moorpark Company

Moorpark manufacturer Special Devices Inc. has been acquired by Daicel Corp., a Japanese company serving the automotive market. The acquisition of Special Devices gives Daicel additional capabilities in airbag inflator and belt retractor market products. Terms of the deal between Special Devices and Daicel were not disclosed. Special Devices has administrative offices in Moorpark and manufacturing facilities in Arizona, Thailand and Germany. The acquisition is an opportunity for Special Devices and Daicel to leverage engineering expertise and operational efficiencies, said Special Devices CEO Christopher Hunter. “This combination of two world class companies and the opportunity build on each other’s unique strengths provides a tremendous advantage for our customers and employees,” Hunter said in a prepared statement.
